Music Production

Cowboys and Indian began as the producing arm for Bombay Rickey, the acclaimed, genre-blurring ensemble fronted by Kamala Sankaram, with Jeff Hudgins and Drew Fleming. Over three albums, the band has fused opera, surf rock, cumbia, and Indian classical and pop music into a sound RootsWorld called a synthesis of Western and Eastern musical traditions “without resorting to clichés.” Each record was produced by Sankaram, Fleming, and Hudgins. Bombay Rickey  was also mixed by Hudgins.

 

Cinefonia (2015)

Bombay Rickey's debut. A five-piece line-up built around Kamala Sankaram's voice and Drew Fleming's guitar work, reviewed by RootsWorld as “expertly twisting musical accompaniment” beneath Sankaram's “crazy cool pipes.” Critic Mac Randall called it “a pan-global cocktail that’s a true treat for the adventurous ear.”

Electric Bhairavi (2018)

The band's second album, continuing its blend of surf rock, cumbia, and Bollywood-inflected sound. Winner of the Independent Music Award for "Best Eclectic Album."

Bombay Rickey (2023)

The self-titled third album — nine tracks written during a 2021 residency at Antenna Cloud Farm in western Massachusetts, then recorded in Montclair, New Jersey and New York City over the following year.
